Nag anti-tank missile successful test fired
1/15/2016
The indigenously-built third generation anti-tank missile Nag was successfully test fired at Mahajan Field Firing Range in Rajasthan.
It successfully hit the target 4 km away during a night trial in the Mahajan Field Firing Range, Rajasthan. DRDO used the Thermal Target System (TTS) developed by a defence laboratory at Jodhpur as target for the missile during the test fire of Nag anti-tank missile. Thermal Target System (TTS) imitated the target similar to operational tank. This was possible as thermal mapping from tank to TTS was carried out for generating thermal signature.
About Nag anti-tank guided missile
- Indigenously developed by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) under the Integrated Guided Missile Development Programme (IGMDP).
- Nag is a third generation fire-and-forget, anti-tank missile developed in India.
- This anti-tank missile, Nag is equipped with Imaging-Infrared seeker which will help in guiding the missile to its target after its launch.
- Operational range is 500m to 4km (Land version), 7-10km (Air-launched).

LRSAM Barak 8 Missile successfully tested from INS Kolkata
1/01/2016
In a boost to India’s maritime prowess, the Indian Navy has successfully test-fired 70 km-range Surface-to-Air Missile Barak 8 from INS Kolkata, paving the way for installation of the system, developed jointly by India and Israel, on board country’s frontline warships.
With this test, India has joined a select group of countries which has such an anti-air warfare capability for their navies. According to Navy, this was a quantum jump for the country’s air defence prowess. The Barak 8 missile fired by the Indian Navy from its warship INS Kolkata on the Western Seaboard successfully intercepted an aerial target at extended ranges. The missile has a range of nearly 70 km.
The successful firing of the newly developed Long Range Surface-to-Air Missile (LR SAM) that was described by the Navy as a “significant milestone” in enhancing its anti-air warfare capability paves the way for installation of the system on India’s frontline warships. Only a small club of countries including the US, France, Britain and Israel possess such a capability.
Apart from the missile, the system includes a Multi Functional Surveillance and Threat Alert Radar (MF STAR) for detection, tracking and guidance of the missile. The firing trial of the LR-SAM has been jointly carried out by the Indian Navy, DRDO and Israel Aerospace Industries.

Anti-jamming capability of Astra missile successfully tested
12/28/2015
The anti-jamming capability of air-to-air Astra missile has been successfully validated in recent trials conducted by missile scientists of the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO).
During the trials missiles ECCM (electronic counter-counter measure) features to overcome any jamming was successfully evaluated. This test was conducted after the missile’s RF seeker and other electronic components were sought to be jammed in the earlier trials.
With some more trials to be carried in future including air launch trial with a warhead, the missile will be inducted into the Indian Air Force (IAF) in 2015.

The trial test was undertaken by Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) in the presence of Defence Research Development Organisation (DRDO) scientists. During the test the missile achieved the desired goal by hitting the incoming target.
About Long Range Surface-to-Air Missile (LRSAM)
- LRSAM is also called Barak 8 missile in Israel which in Hebrew language means Lightning.
- Barak 8 is an advanced, long-range missile defence , air defence system. and it's main features are long range, active radar seeker missile, vertical launch and multiple simultaneous engagements.
- For the LRSAM, DRDO has developed dual pulse propulsion system along with other safety arm mechanisms for Solid Propulsion system.
- The LRSAM programme consists of Missiles, Weapon Control System, MFSTAR (Radar), Vertical Launcher unit and two- way data link.
