India and Russia have inked 16 cooperation agreements to expand cooperation in various sectors to give a major push to their strategic ties.
Modi’s two days official visit to Russia. The agreements were signed in the nuclear energy, hydrocarbons, solar energy, railways and visas sectors.

IMPORTANT AGREEMENTS
Cooperation in the field of Helicopter Engineering
  • It includes joint manufacture of Kamov 226 helicopters on the lines of Make in India campaign.
Programme of Action Agreed Between for Localization of Manufacturing in India for Russian-Designed Nuclear Reactor Units
  • It would felicitate construction of 12 atomic plants with involvement of local companies in India under the ‘Make-in-India’ programme.
  • The cooperation in the peaceful uses of nuclear energy is a cornerstone of the Russia-India strategic partnership.
MoU on technical cooperation in railway sector MoU for construction of solar energy plants in India
  • It was signed between Solar Energy Corporation of India and Russian Energy Agency regarding.
  • MoU for Cooperation for geologic survey, exploration and production of hydrocarbons onshore and on the continental shelf of the Russian Federation.
  • Similar agreement was also signed between Rosneft Oil Company of Russia and Oil India Limited and Indian Oil Corporation Limited.

PM Narendra Modi inaugurates new building of Afghanistan Parliament in Kabul
The Prime Minister inaugurated  the new building of Afghanistan Parliament in the capital city Kabul built by India.
It was inaugurated during Narendra Modi’s first official visit to Afghanistan after becoming Prime Minister. He also named one block of Parliament as Atal Block after former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee.
Prime Minister also handed over 4 Mi-25 attack helicopters to Afghanistan Air Force symbolising a shift in India’s position on supplying ‘offensive’ equipment.
Afghanistan parliament building was constructed by India at a cost of US 90 million dollars as a symbol of India’s support to Afghanistan’s democracy and civil reconstruction.
The construction of Parliament building was started in 2009 and it had missed its completion deadlines at least 3 times since 2011. This project along with $300 million Salma dam project (called the India-Afghanistan friendship dam) in Heart province has generated much goodwill for India.

India and Japan ink 14 agreements in various fields

 
 
 
 
India and Japan have inked fourteen agreements in various fields to enhance bilateral co-operation between both countries.
These agreements were signed during ninth annual Indo-Japan summit talks held in New Delhi. The summit was jointly held by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Japanese counterpart Shinzo Abe.

Some important agreements signed are
  • Agreement in transfer of Defence Equipment and Technology Cooperation: Provides a framework to enhance defence and security cooperation.
  • Agreement on security measures for the protection of classified military information: Ensures the reciprocal protection of classified military information transmitted to each other.
  • Agreement on Amendment Protocol of Double Taxation Avoidance Agreement: Amends the Convention between both countries for the Avoidance of Double Taxation and the prevention of fiscal evasion with respect to Taxes on Income, signed in 1989.
  • MoC on Technological Cooperation in Rail Sector: Establishes areas for comprehensive technological cooperation including sharing of information and best practices.
  • MoU on technological cooperation on Rail safety: proposes to cooperate in the areas of safety in train operation and advanced techniques of maintenance along with use of environment friendly technologies, etc.
  • MoC on Medical Products Regulation Dialogue and Cooperation Framework: Seeks to facilitate a constructive dialogue in areas pertinent to raw materials for pharmaceutical use, biological products, medical devices, quasi-drugs, cosmetic products.
  • MoC in the field of forests: Enhance cooperation in sustainable forest management, forest conservation and forest disaster prevention, conservation of biodiversity and effective utilization of forest resources etc.
Apart from this, both countries also issued a joint statement on ‘India and Japan Vision 2025: Special Strategic and Global Partnership Working Together for Peace and Prosperity of the Indo-Pacific Region and the World’. India also extended visa an arrival (VoA) facility for Japanese nationals, including businessmen from 1st March 2016.

PM Narendra Modi inaugurates Ambedkar memorial in London

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the recently acquired Ambedkar memorial by Maharashtra Government at King Henry’s Road in London, United Kingdom.
On this occasion, Prime Minister unveiled a plaque to mark the dedication of the Memorial and was accompanied by Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis.
 
Background
  • Maharashtra government had bought this house in London where social reformer and architect of the Indian Constitution Dr Bhimrao Ramji Ambedkar had stayed as a student in the 1920s.
  • In September 2015, Maharashtra Government had purchased the house for 32 crore rupees and had converted into an international memorial consisting of a public museum and a library owing to its cultural and national importance and pride of millions of people of India.
Apart from it, Prime Minister Narendra Modi also unveiled a Basaveshwara Statue at Lambeth in London. Basaveshwara (1105-1167 AD) was a great philosopher and social reformer who had fought against social evils of his time, and worked for the strengthening of democracy at the grassroots.
Basaveshwara’s life and ideas are narrated in the sacred text Basava purana of the south Indian Hindu Lingayat community. He was known for Bhakti movement in south India in 12th century AD.

The list gives the annual ranking of the World’s 72 Most Powerful People on the basis of their financial resources, scope and use of power and the number of people they impact.

  • For the consecutive 3rd year, Russian President Vladimir Putin has been named the world’s most powerful person in the list.
  • German Chancellor Angela Merkel was ranked 2nd overtaking US President Barack Obama. She continues her reign as the most powerful woman on the planet for consecutive 10 years.
  • Earlier, in the 2014 Forbes list of world’s powerful people, PM Narendra Modi was placed 14th position.
  • Other Indians: Reliance Industries Chairman Mukesh Ambani was placed at 36th position.
  • Among Indian-origin people, steel tycoon Lakshmi Mittal ranked 55th, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella is ranked 61st.

PM Narendra Modi lays foundation stone for Andhra Pradesh’s new capital city

Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone Amaravati, a new capital city of Andhra Pradesh on the occasion of Dussehra and Vijaya Dashmi.
The foundation stone of new futuristic capital city of the state was laid at a grand ceremony held in Guntur district.
Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu along with other guests participated in the rituals to mark laying the foundation.

November 26 to be observed as Constitution Day

India will observe 26 November as Constitution Day (Samvidhan Divas) to spread awareness of Indian Constitution and its architecture Dr B R Ambedkar.
Significance of Day: On 26 November 1949, Indian constitution was adopted by the 389 member Constituent Assembly (CA) and it came into force on 26 January, 1950.
It was announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi after laying the foundation stone of Dr Ambedkar Memorial at Indu Mills Compound in the heart of Mumbai city.

PM lays foundation stone of 4th terminal of Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust in Mumbai

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has laid the foundation stone of fourth terminal of country’s largest container port – Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT) in Mumbai.
The ambitious project will augment JNPT’s present capacity situated off the financial capital’s eastern seafront by doubling it in next two years.

  • The fourth terminal project will be carried out in two phases at estimated cost of 7,900 crore rupees and will be complete by the end of 2017.

G-4 countries issue Joint Statement on UNSC Reforms

G-4 countries viz Brazil, Germany, India and Japan have issued a Joint Statement on United Nations Security Council Reforms (UNSC).
It was issued after G-4 meeting held in New York,US which was called by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and was Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff, Chancellor of Germany Angela Merkel and Prime Minister of Japan Shinzo Abe.

  • Stressed on more legitimate, representative and effective UNSC reforms to address the global conflicts and crises which have spiralled in recent years.

PM Narendra Modi to visit Ireland, US from September 23-29 2015

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will serve a visit to Ireland and the US from September 23-29 2015. He will go to Ireland on 23rd September 2015. It will be the first visit by an Indian prime minister in almost 60 years. On September 24, Modi will travel to the US.
In New York City, Modi will address the UN Sustainable Development Summit for formal adoption of post-2015 new sustainable development agenda. The new goals are closely aligned with India’s vision for sustainable development and our flagship programmes for the same.  He will also participate in a summit hosted by President Obama on peacekeeping, he noted that India has been one of the largest contributors to UN peacekeeping forces, with over 180,000 troops. On September 26-27, It would be after a gap of almost 33 years that an Indian PM would be visiting the west coast – the home of start-ups, innovation and technology. PM Narendra Modi launches IPDS in Varanasi to ensure 24×7 power supply to every house

Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched National Integrated Power Development Scheme (IPDS) in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh to provide 24×7 power supply to every house.
To start the scheme in Varanasi, PM laid foundation stone of two power substations and Union Government will provide 572 crore rupees to implement it.
Apart from launching IPDS, PM also laid the foundation stone of seven other developmental projects in Varanasi. He also formally inaugurated the biggest Trauma centre of the country in Banaras Hindu University.
 

About Integrated Power Development Scheme (IPDS)

  • Aim: To strengthen the transmission and distribution (T&D) networks, 100 per cent metering urban areas and smarten it with information technology.
