Interceptor boat ICGS C-422 commissioned into Indian Coast Guard service
Indian Coast Guard has commissioned interceptor boat ‘ICGS C-422’ into its fleet to further enhance its vigil along Pondicherry and South Tamil Nadu coast in the Bay of Bengal.
It was commissioned in a traditional ceremony held at Karaikal port in Tamil Nadu by Puducherry Assembly Speaker V Sabapathy.
Points to Note
- ICGS C-422 is the 36th interceptor boat to be inducted into the Coast Guard service.
- The interceptor boat is capable of undertaking multifarious tasks such as surveillance, interdiction, search and rescue and coordinated operations with sea and air units, sources said.
- It has been designed and built indigenously by M/s. Larsen and Toubro Ltd.
- The 27.80-m-long boat can achieve a maximum speed of 45 knots. It is equipped with two diesel engines and will have an endurance of 500 nautical miles.
- It is fitted with state-of-the-art communication and navigational equipment. The boat will be based at Karaikal and have a complement of one officer and 11 ICGS personnel.
- Two fast patrol vessels, ICGS Rani Durgavati and ICGS Ameya, and two interceptor boats, C-428 and C-415, are already based at the Karaikal port.

Two Indian Coast Guard ships Apoorva & C-421 commissioned
Indian Coast Guard has commissioned two new ships named Fast Patrol Vessel ICGS Apoorva and Interceptor Boat C-421.
The ships were commissioned by Vice Admiral SPS Cheema, Flag Officer Commanding in Chief of Western Naval Command (Mumbai) off the naval dockyard in Mumbai, Maharashtra.
- Fast Patrol Vessel ICGS Apoorva: It is the 14th fast patrol vessel in a series of 20. It is 50-metre long and can achieve a top speed of 33 knots and displaces 317 tonnes.
- The ship Apoorva synonyms with Unparalleled in English will be based at Goa.
- It is equipped with state-of-the-art advanced communication, navigational and weapons.
