India and Russia have inked 16 cooperation agreements to expand cooperation in various sectors to give a major push to their strategic ties.
Modi’s two days official visit to Russia. The agreements were signed in the nuclear energy, hydrocarbons, solar energy, railways and visas sectors.

IMPORTANT AGREEMENTS
Cooperation in the field of Helicopter Engineering
  • It includes joint manufacture of Kamov 226 helicopters on the lines of Make in India campaign.
Programme of Action Agreed Between for Localization of Manufacturing in India for Russian-Designed Nuclear Reactor Units
  • It would felicitate construction of 12 atomic plants with involvement of local companies in India under the ‘Make-in-India’ programme.
  • The cooperation in the peaceful uses of nuclear energy is a cornerstone of the Russia-India strategic partnership.
MoU on technical cooperation in railway sector MoU for construction of solar energy plants in India
  • It was signed between Solar Energy Corporation of India and Russian Energy Agency regarding.
  • MoU for Cooperation for geologic survey, exploration and production of hydrocarbons onshore and on the continental shelf of the Russian Federation.
  • Similar agreement was also signed between Rosneft Oil Company of Russia and Oil India Limited and Indian Oil Corporation Limited.

India-Russia joint naval exercise INDRA NAVY-15 begins in Visakhapatnam

The eighth edition of India-Russia joint naval exercise-INDRA NAVY-15 has begun in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh.
INDRA NAVY-15 is a bilateral maritime joint naval exercise between the Indian and Russian navies for epitomising the strategic relationship between the two countries.
 

About INDRA NAVY-15

  • The primary aim is to increase interoperability between the navies of two countries and develop common understanding of procedures for maritime security operations.
  • The scope includes wide- ranging professional interactions during the Harbour phase and spectrum of maritime operations during the Sea Phase.
  • The Harbour Phase encompasses planning conferences ashore and table-top exercises prior to progressing to sea. The Sea Phase would include various facets of fleet operations.
  • Indian Navy will be represented by: INS Sahyadri– an indigenous frigate, INS Ranvijay– a guided missile destroyer and INS Shakti-a Fleet Support Ship.
  • It also is represented by INS Sindhuvir– a submarine, P81 Long Range Maritime Patrol Aircraft, Dornier Short Range Maritime Patrol Aircraft, Hawk Advanced Jet Trainer.
  • Russian Federation Navy (RFN) will be represented by: 4 ships from Vladivostok based Pacific Fleet. They are Bystry-a destroyer, Varyag-a cruiser, Alatau-a rescue ocean going tug and Boris Butoma-a fleet tanker.
INDRA NAVY-15 bilateral naval exercise was initiated in 2003. Since then, it has matured over the years with increasing scope, complexity of operations and level of participation.
The eight edition of exercise will be another milestone in strengthening maritime security cooperation between the two navies. It will also serve to reinforce the long-standing bond of friendship between both countries.

India-Russia Joint Military Exercise Indra-2015 begins in Rajasthan

 
The seventh edition India-Russia Joint Military Exercise ‘Indra-2015’ has begun in Bikaner district of Rajasthan.
This edition of exercise is focusing on Counter Terrorism Operations in Desert Terrain under a United Nations Mandate.
 
Points to note
  • The bilateral exercise would be held between Indian Army’s Infantry Battalion and Independent Russian Motorised Brigade from 7 to 20 November 2015.
  • It would be conducted 2 phases, namely ‘Combat Conditioning & Tactical Training’ and ‘Validation’ phases.
  • Both participating battalions would initially acquaint themselves with each other’s counter terrorism approaches including Command and Control systems, operations, arms and equipment.
  • They would also focus on ensuring a high degree of physical fitness, tactical drills, techniques and procedures.
  • This joint exercise will also engage in variety of joint missions including joint planning, Search and Rescue, Cordon and Search operations, special arms skills and joint tactical drills.
  • The bilateral exercise seeks to further boost people to people as well as military to military ties between India and Russia.
