India won 2015 SAFF football championships
India has won the 2015 South Asian Football Federation (SAFF) championship for record seventh time.
In the final match played at Thiruvanantapuram (Kerala), India defeated Afghanistan by 2-1 goal score. Jeje Lalpekhlua (72nd minute) and Sunil Chhetri (101th) had scored goals for India. For Afghanistan single goal was scored by Zubayr Amiri at 70th minute.

  • Indian Team Captain: Sunil Chhetri.
  • Afghanistan Team Captain: Faysal Shayesteh.
Earlier India had won the SAFF Football Championship in year 1993, 1997, 1999, 2005, 2009 and 2011.

About SAFF Football Championship

The SAFF Championship also called South Asian Football Federation (SAFF) Cup is the biennial football competition of the men’s national football teams of 8 countries in South Asia region.
The SAFF Football championship was established in 1993 and is governed by the South Asian Football Federation.
8 participating countries are: Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Afghanistan (joined in 2005).

Yan Dhanda becomes first player of Indian Heritage to sign with Liverpool
Liverpool youngster Yan Dhanda has become the first player of Indian heritage to sign a professional contract with the Reds. 
The 17-year-old, who was born in Birmingham, joined Liverpool from West Brom in 2013 and has now signed a two-and-a-half-year deal at Anfield. Dhanda has been capped at youth level by England, playing for the Under-16 and Under-17 teams – scoring once for the latter – and won the Up and Coming Player award at the 2013 Asian Football Awards.
Dhanda has made two appearances for Liverpool’s Under-21 side thus far this season, featuring for 90 minutes against both Sunderland and Tottenham. The teenager will now hope to catch manager Jurgen Klopp’s eye as he continues his development.

Chennaiyin FC wins 2015 Indian Super League Football Champions

Chennaiyin FC has won the second edition of Indian Super League (ISL) Football tournament.
In a dramatic final at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium at Goa’s Fatorda, FC Chennaiyin defeated FC Goa 3-2 to be crowned Indian Super League (ISL) season 2 champions.
Till the 87th minute of final match Goa was leading by 2-1 goals but the self goal from their keeper Laxmikant Kattimani in the 90th minute and Colombian Stiven Mendoza’s strike seconds later helped Chennai win the title.

Barcelona FC wins FIFA Club World Cup for 3rd time
Barcelona FC has won the 2015 FIFA Club World Cup for a record third time.
In the final match played at International Stadium Yokoham in Japan the winning team defeated River Plate FC by 3-0 goals.
 
Three goals for Barcelona FC were scored by Lionel Messi (36 minute), Luis Suarez (49 minute) and Neymar (68 minute). Earlier Barcelona FC had won the FIFA Club World Cup in 2009 and 2011  and it is their  fifth trophy of season 2015.
 
The first side to be presented with the FIFA World Champions Badge was the Italian men’s national team, after their victory at the 2006 FIFA World Cup™, followed by Spain in South Africa in 2010 and, most recently, Germany, who earned the right to wear the badge of honour as the winners of the 2014 FIFA World Cup™.

Former FIFA referee SK Bhattacharya passes away

Former FIFA referee SK Bhattacharya has passed away in Chandanpur, West Bengal following a brief illness. He was 87 years.
One of India’s most reputed referee in the 1960’s and 1970’s , Bhattacharya held the distinction of supervising the Asia Cup finals in the 1972 in Tehran. He also supervised the finals of all top tournaments in the country, including Durand Cup, DCM trophy and IAF Shield. Being very strict on the field, capital’s players, in the prestigious Delhi Senior Division league, were scared of his strict decisions and paid due respect.

FIFA bans Nepal football President Ganesh Thapa for 10 years

World football governing body Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) has banned Ganesh Thapa, President of the All-Nepal Football Association (ANFA) for 10 years.
He was banned by FIFA’s ethics committee over corruption allegations after the Himalayan country’s football team’s image had deteriorated as its several national football players were accused of match-fixing.
FIFA’s ethics committee also has accused Thapa for committing various acts of misconduct over several years in his 19-year tenure as President of ANFA and was fined 19,850 US dollars.
Acts of misconduct committed by him includes the solicitation and acceptance of cash payments from another football official, for both personal and family gain.
FIFA also has banned the Viphet Sihachakr, President of the Laos Football federation for two years over bribery allegations and was fined 39,700 US.

India placed 22nd in new Asian football technical ranking

A new technical ranking system of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) has placed India in 22nd spot among the continent’s 46-member countries, the highest among South Asian nations. The new ranking system is based on the performance of the national team and clubs (at AFC competitions) of a particular country in the last four years. National team’s performance is based on lastest FIFA ranking points and this carries 30 per cent weightage in the calculation. The performance of the clubs of a particular country carries 70 per cent weightage and this is calculated based on the four latest Asian Champions League or AFC Cup seasons.
 
India, which lies at 27th spot among AFC countries in the latest FIFA rankings (at 155th), has 18.636 points (11.951 for performance by national team + 9.318 for performance by clubs) in its kitty in the latest technical rankings.
