Indian Revenue Service (IRS) officer A K Jain has been appointed acting Chairman of the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) after the retirement of its Chairperson Anita Kapur.
Meanwhile, Kapur, who retired, has been appointed an adviser on tax reforms in the Finance Ministry for six months. She will be contributing to the Ministry’s efforts for creating better taxpayer services, bringing in an improved direct taxes regime and also help in preparing the Union Budget for the next fiscal.
Apart from its Chairman, CBDT has six members and is the supreme body for framing policy and administrative issues related to direct taxes and the IT Department.

- The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) provides essential inputs for policy and planning of direct taxes in India and is also responsible for administration of the direct tax laws through Income Tax Department.
